Ernest Clarke Sr.

Ernest Clay Clarke, Sr., 78, of Chesterfield, Virginia, went to be with his Lord on Friday, December 8, 2017. He was born on September 30, 1939 in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Hilary Clay Clarke and Iris C. Clarke. He was preceded in death by his only brother, Gordon E. Clarke. Ernest was a devoted Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ernest worked for the A&P Grocery chain of stores for over 35 years, retiring from the A&P in the early 1990's. Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Jean Newcomb Clarke; sons, Ernest Clay Clarke, Jr., Michael G. Clarke and his wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Wanda C. Green and her husband, Mike; a grandson, Aaron M. Green; a granddaughter, Amy N. Harger and her husband, Ryan; great-granddaughter, Azalea Noelle Harger; a great-grandson, Lincoln Kenneth Clay Harger; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Park 2901 W. Hundred Road Chester, Virginia 23831 with the Reverend Dr. David Hayes officiating.
