Ernest Mears

Ernest "Wayne" Mears, 67, of Prince George passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at his residence. Born on May 11, 1949, he was the son of Ernest Lloyd and Marion Shelton Mears, and was preceded in death by his father. From 1968-1974, Wayne served in the United States Army Reserves. Later, he began working for Vulcan Materials and became a Market Manager for the Mideast Division. He was a member of the Homebuilders Association of Southside Virginia, and was past member of Rives Ruritan Club. Wayne was loved and will be remembered by numerous family members and friends including those who are a part of the Vulcan Materials family. He is survived by his loving wife, Sally B. Mears; mother, Marion S. Mears; daughter, Ashley M. Powroznik (Ryan); son, Adam W. Mears (Alicia Weiss); grandchildren, Ali and Blake Powroznik, Christian Mears, Claire Ford; brothers, Thomas W. Mears (Susan), David L. Mears (Patsy); sister, Wendy M. Fulton (Charlie). A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Second Baptist Church, 3355 Johnson Rd, Petersburg, Virginia, 23805, with the Reverend Dr. Joseph T. Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S. Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 South Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia, 23805, or Second Baptist Church.
