Esther Sammons Conant went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Esther was born on March 11, 1929 in South Hill, Virginia to her parents, Benjamin Franklin Sammons and May Flower Cole. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph A. Conant Jr.; son, Wayne Franklin Conant; and sister, Sylvia Sammons.
Esther is survived by her sons, Philip C. Conant (Elizabeth) of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Brian C. Conant (Tina) of Chester, Virginia; granddaughter, Kristen Hart (Robert of Jacksonville, Florida.
Esther retired from C & P Telephone Company. She also worked for J.C. Penny in Petersburg, Virginia, Dishman’s Restaurant in Colonial Heights, Virginia, and Southside Regional Hospital in Petersburg, Virginia.
Esther loved being a military wife and thoroughly enjoyed the travel associated with it. She dearly loved children and served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years. Esther was a member of Second Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia since 1939. She served as president of the Northeast chapter of Telephone Pioneers of America, and volunteered for the Salvation Army.
