Eva J Thompson of Colonial Heights passed away at the Colonial Heights Health Care and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, June 23, 2010. She was born in Whiteville, North Carolina to Arthur and Mary Horne on May 29, 1926. She is preceded in death by her husband, A. Z. Thompson; her parents, Arthur and Mary Horne; four brothers, Charles, Thomas, Kenneth, and Blair Horne. She retired from the U. S. Army Combined Arms Support Command at Fort Lee in September of 1991 after 38 years of exemplarily civil service. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and was a woman of great faith, as witnessed by family and many friends, whom she treasured. She is survived by a devoted family, her son, Robert Thompson of Lee's Summit, Missouri; and her daughter, Billie Thompson of Colonial Heights; two grandchildren, Melissa Thompson and Jennifer Thompson of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters, Evelyn Hubbard of South Dakota, Jackie Wilson of Wilmington, North Carolina, and JoAnn Nemec of Baltimore, Maryland; brothers, Eugene Horne of El Dorado Hills, California, O'Neil and Billy Horne of Baltimore, Maryland; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Dr. Andrew Brockelman officiating. Interment will be held in Baltimore, Maryland. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
