Evelyn Duke

Evelyn Elizabeth "Duke" Chappell Duke, 54 days shy of her 101 birthday of Petersburg, Virginia died peacefully Tuesday, November 17, 2015 surrounded by her four loving children. Duke was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford A. Duke and her great grandson, Alexander Duke Foreman Gill. "Duke" is survived by one daughter, Marion D. Bulifant of Petersburg; three sons, Clifton (Betty) of Salvo, North Carolina, L. Leon Duke of Long Beach, Mississippi, and Gordon (Marilyn) of Frankfort, Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Brenda Whorley of Chesterfield, William (Bubba) Bulifant of Petersburg, Tonda Hockenberry of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, Rhonda Howard of Wilson, North Carolina, Michael Duke of Mechanicsville; Cheryl Anderson of Winchester, Clifton A. Duke, Jr. of Richmond, Tammy Duke Gill of Bethesda, Maryland, and Melanie Duke of Kentucky; sixteen great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lena Duke; brother-in-law, Chuck Johnson, both of Colonial Heights; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Rd, Petersburg, VA 23805. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends Friday evening, November 20, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Lottie Moon fund at Monumental Baptist Church, 2925 S Crater Rd, Petersburg, VA 23805, or Medi Home Health and Hospice, 10543 S Crater Rd, Petersburg, VA 23805.
