Evelyn Godwin

Evelyn Blickenstaff Godwin, 100, of Chesterfield passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019. Born March 28, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Viola Blickenstaff, and was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Max Pernay Godwin; four sisters; and many dear friends. She was a longtime member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, and was a devoted pastor’s wife, having served by her husband’s side for 13 years. Evelyn had a green thumb and loved working in her garden. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and she enjoyed every minute she had with them. She is survived by her children, Cindy Godwin Hansen and husband, Rev. Hank Hansen, Ron Godwin, Tammy Godwin Comeforo and husband, Gary; two grandchildren, Michael Comeforo, Sara Thomas and husband, Connor; four great-grandchildren, Ezra, Eizley and Azalea Comeforo, Josie Evelyn Thomas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and other staff members at Lucy Corr Village for their extraordinary care of Evelyn during her time of residency. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S. Prince George. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
