Evelyn Lowe

March 9, 1925 — July 14, 2012

Evelyn Francis Lowe (Verdeyen) of Colonial Heights, Virginia passed away July 14, 2012 after a short illness with her family by her side. Evelyn was born March 9, 1925 in Douglas Township, Effingham City, Illinois to the late George and Theresa (Probst) W. Verdeyen. Married in 1945, she spent the next 27 years as a serviceman's wife making homes stateside and overseas with her husband and family. After his retirement, they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and later Austin, Texas where they were active participants in the local POW chapters and traveled to visit friends around the world. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Charles M. Lowe LTC USAF, and her brothers Lawrence W. and Eugene H. Verdeyen. She is survived by three sons, Charles (Diane, her second daughter) of Colonial Heights, Virginia, and Michael and Donald of Sunland, California; daughter, Patricia (Mark, her fourth son) Turberville of Anchorage, Alaska; grandsons, USMC Maj Carl Lowe, Daniel Lowe and Matthew Lowe; granddaughters, Jennifer O'Toole and Catlin Turberville; and great grandson, Cameron O'Toole; her beloved sister-in-law, Pauline Verdeyen; and special niece, Donna Wilson of Effingham, Illinois. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard. A graveside service will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
