Evelyn Newton Patterson, 78, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born in Chase City, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Luthie Puett Newton, the widow of Judson E. Wright, and Percy Charles "Pat" Patterson, and was preceded in death by three children, Diane Wright, Ellen Duffer, and Lois Bowden; a brother, Elmore Newton; and a sister, Jolene R. Barnes. Mrs. Patterson was a member of Sappony Baptist Church, and the proprietor of Patterson's Grocery Store in Stony Creek. She is survived by her children, Peggie W. Barnes and husband, Chuck of Stony Creek, Curtis Allen Wright and wife, Cindy of Staunton, and Tina Newton and husband, Bernie of Dinwiddie; grandchildren, Curtis Lee Duffer, Carolyn Morrefield, Judson Matthew Duffer, Leketa Bowden, Yolanda Jones, Russ Barnes, Jason Barnes, Chrissy Gentry , Tammera Robertson, and George Hawkins Jr.; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Becky Adams and husband, Williott, Edna Comer and husband, Roger; a brother, Richard Newton and wife, Nellie; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend and neighbor, Sybil Jordan; and her special Guardian Angels from Southside Regional Medical Center on 4 West, and Dinwiddie Health & Rehabilitation Center. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with Pastor Nathan Decker officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
