Everett F. Hope, 92, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010. Born in Hanover County, Everett graduated in 1937 from Goochland High School. Drafted in 1941 into the U.S. Army, Everett proudly served in the 22nd Infantry 4th Division and later in the 77th Infantry Division in the Signal Corps as Field Wire Chief. Serving as a Master Sergeant in the Pacific Theater of Operations, he landed in the Philippines under General MacArthur's command and received the Bronze Star for meritorious service. After WWII he returned to work for the C&P Telephone Company, working in several positions including lineman, installer repairman and PBX installer. Moving from Richmond to the Petersburg area, he worked for C&P Telephone Company until he retired after 45 years of service. His last position was as construction supervisor for Bell Atlantic in Petersburg. In the community, he was a member of the Civitan Club of Petersburg and the Chamber of Commerce of Hopewell and Petersburg. In the City of Colonial Heights, he served on the planning commission and zoning board during the 1960s. Mr. Hope is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Archer Hope; a daughter, Janice H. Vaughn; son-in-law, Thomas L. Vaughn; granddaughters, Valerie Vaughn of Richmond, Stephanie V. Barringer and her husband, John Barringer III, of Portales, New Mexico; and four sisters, Mary Poole of Louisa County, Bess Berguin, Lucy Palmes, Nancy Gasser and her husband, Oswald Gasser, all of Richmond. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010 in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, with the Reverend David Prather officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, until 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the American Heart Association , P.O.
