Florence Moon

Florence Saunders Moon, 89, of Petersburg, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2018 at the Petersburg Home for Ladies. She was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Virginia Jennings Saunders. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Wade Moon; a brother, Frank Saunders; and two sisters, Lillian Rudd and Bobbie Dawson. Founded in 1962, Mrs. Moon was a charter member of Western Heights Baptist Church, where she was very active and also the first clerk of the church. She was a beloved homemaker, and educator for the Dinwiddie County School and the Greenhouse Child Care Center Grandma. She was an avid Red Sox fan, and beloved Nan to her grandchildren; she enjoyed cooking and entertaining her family, she had a gift for making people laugh with her quick wit, and nothing was more precious to her than helping a child learn to read. Mrs. Moon is survived by a son, David Wade Moon and wife, Cynthia; a daughter, Dwen Moon Marek and husband, Gilbert; grandchildren, David (Michelle), Lauryn, Christina (Daniel); great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Marley, and Kinsley; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Barbara Hinson. The family would like to thank the Petersburg Home for Ladies for their excellent care and dedication given to Florence. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 in Western Heights Baptist Church, 24416 Cox Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 with the Reverend Jonathan Dundalow officiating. Burial will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service at church.
