Frank D. "Donnie" Marsee Jr., 55 of Matoaca, in an unfortunate accident was taken from us on Saturday, December 27, 2008. He was the son of the late Frank D. Marsee Sr. and Charlotte Lucille Brown Marsee. Frank grew up in Colonial Heights VA and graduated from Colonial Heights High School in 1972. He was married to his wife Sue for 35 years and was a devoted father to two sons, Paul (Boy 1) and Sam (Boy 2). Mr. Marsee was a retired lieutenant with the Chesterfield County Fire and EMS STATION 12. Frank started his career as a fire Fighter at the age of 19. He was convinced by a friend to try and get hired by the Petersburg Fire Department beginning a long and wonderful career in the fire service. Frank worked for 8 years for Petersburg before leaving and being hired by the Chesterfield Fire Department. There he spent 24 years giving him a total of 32 years of service. He was the departments first Tactical Safety Officer (TSO). Frank was the president of the Matoaca Athletic Association. He coached the first Matoaca Youth Wrestling Team. He was the president of the Matoaca High School Boosters Club. In 1985 along with working 2 jobs and running the Athletic Association he started his own business, FDM Safety Services. For the past 28 years he has taken a dream and made it into a flourishing business. Frank was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf, but was the happiest spending time with his family and friends at the "Rivah" house on the Rappahannock River. He was a mentor and father figure to the "boys" from Matoaca, the "boys" from Colonial Heights and the young men from the Fire Service who he taught so much to. He is survived by his devoted wife Sue Smith Marsee, Son, Paul Marsee and wife Betsy of Prince George and their sons Bryce and Bennett. Son, Sam Marsee and wife Ashley of Prince George and their son Brody. A brother Bruce Marsee and wife Patty of Georgia, and their daughters Andreanna and Lauren, two sisters, Charlotte Theresa Marsee of McKenney and her children Larry Ray and Michele Kirkland, Carianna Glenn and husband Dennis of Dinwiddie, brother-in-law Jim Smith and wife Julie of Matoaca and their daughters Allyson and Emily, parents-in-law Bobby "Puff" and Rachel "Rache" Smith of Matoaca and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 2, 2009 at Matoaca Baptist Church. A viewing period will be held an hour preceding the service. Interment Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at www.cff.org and the St Jude's Hospital at www.stjude.org.
