George Woody Stafford, 90, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2011. He was the son of the late John C. and Laura Woody Stafford. Mr. Stafford was a member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he lost his sight. He was a past President and member of the Colonial Heights Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellows), Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2239, and the Colonial Heights School Board. Mr. Stafford was a graduate of the University of Virginia, and a former Commonwealth's Attorney for the City of Colonial Heights. He is survived by his loving wife, Berkley B. Stafford; a son, Timothy W. Stafford and wife Mary Susan of Matoaca; daughters, Robin S. Sorrentino and husband Ed of Doswell; Karen L. Stafford of Chesterfield, and Stacy L. Stafford of Colonial Heights; six grandchildren, Lauren S. Kidd and husband, Kris, Edward B Sorrentino, Matthew S. Sorrentino, Nicolas W. Stafford, Luke A. Sorrentino, and Benjamin J. Stafford; special friend and caregiver, Jeanette Russell. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff at the Hopewell Health Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2011 in St Michael's Episcopal Church, 501 Old Town Drive Colonial Heights, Va. 23834 with Rev. Robert C. Lord and the Rev. Tige Newell officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Michaels Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice.
