Gene Sturgill

Gene Autry Sturgill, 69, of Colonial Heights, passed away Thursday May 21, 2009 at his residence. He was the son of the late Ora and Mabel Jones Sturgill, and was preceded in death by a son, Stephen W. Sturgill, and a brother Billy L. Sturgill. Mr. Sturgill was retired from Sligh Plumbing and Heating in Hopewell. He is survived by two sons, James O. Sturgill of Chester, and Clint W. Sturgill and wife, Kristy Leigh of Hopewell; a brother, Harold L. Sturgill and wife, Renate of Lynchburg; two sisters, Mary L. Smith and husband, Marshall of Colonial Heights, and Barbara A. Ford and husband, Douglass of Chester; five stepchildren, James Harreld, Sophia Scruggs, Anita Smith, Christina Dawson, and Carrie Harreld; his long time companion, Helen Johnson of Colonial Heights. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with Reverend (name) officiating. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
