George Vernon Baxter Jr., 85, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021. He was born in Washington D.C., June 19, 1936 to the late George and Helen Baxter, and was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Nancy “Dean” Baxter; and granddaughter, Angela Spain.
George was a long-time member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the State Police Alumni. He was a United States Navy Veteran. George was a Virginia State Police Officer, an A.T.F. Agent and worked for the FBI for 35 years combined. After retiring, he went into private business doing arson investigations and taught foreign police officers bombing techniques. George enjoyed golfing, traveling, and sharing stories of his career.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheri Spain (Warren); grandson, Ryan Spain; his two great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Christian Spain; his beloved friend, Hookie Hargis; and his loving fur-baby companion of 14 years, Spanky.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia State Police Association, 6944 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond Virginia, 23225.
