George T. Staley, 86, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leighton and Evelyn Gibbs. Mr. Staley was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater, and Chief of Physical Activities at Fort Lee for 27 years. He is survived by his wife, Stella M. Staley; three daughters, Jackie Staley Farley, Anna Staley Ponder (Jimmy), and Georgia Staley Sink; sons-in-law, Gary Farley (Sheryl) and Dan Sink; grandchildren, Tommy Farley (Ginny), Katie Farley, Jeff Farley (Sierra), Doug Ponder (Jessica), Drew Ponder (Jordan), Ryan Ponder, Abby Ponder, Daniel Sink (Kim), Ashley Sink, Annabeth Sink (boyfriend, Jarrett), Matthew Sink and Alby Farley; great-grandchildren, Josh Farley and Ash Ponder. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Fred Adkins and the Reverend Doug Ponder officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
