Gerald Wayne Browder, 65, was called home Monday, December 12, 2011 after suffering a brief illness. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Charles D. Browder Sr. and Lucy Childress Browder, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold R. Browder and Charles Dodson Browder Jr. He will be missed by his wife, Sandra Browder; daughters, Amy Amos and husband, Jeff, Spring Hess and husband, Ben; grandchildren, Samantha & David Amos and Lauren & Tyler Hess; a brother, Earl F. Browder of Kingsland, Texas. Gerald retired from Reynolds Metals/ALCOA after 33 years of service. During recent years Gerald was affectionately known as the "Dump Man," while working at the Dinwiddie-Rohoic Waste Transfer Station. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 in Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W. Hundred Road, Chester, Virginia 23831 with the Reverend Carol McCann officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Blue jeans mandatory - ball caps welcome.
