Gertrude D. Brooks, 100, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 surrounded by her family. Born in Chesterfield County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha Belcher Dance, and the widow of Frank M. Brooks Sr. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Madeline Gibbs, a son, Donald L. Gibbs, two step-daughters, two brothers, Joseph & Herbert Dance and three sisters, Lilly Watson, Myrtle Mayes and Edith Hogue. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Robert McDaniel of Las Vegas, Lewis Gibbs and wife, Jean of Dinwiddie; a daughter, Sandra G. Green and husband, Arthur of Chesterfield; step-sons, Earl Brooks and wife, Barbara of Chesterfield, Frank M. Brooks Jr. of Chesterfield; 3 step-daughters; 29 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Lois Gibbs and Mary Ann Gibbs; special nephew and niece, Henry & Carolyn Hogue, many other nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013 in Western Heights Baptist Church, 24416 Cox Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 with the Reverend Jonathan Dundalow and the Reverend Ron Sowers officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Western Heights Baptist Church, Building Fund or Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805.
