Gloria Dea Mitchem, 67, of Disputanta passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at home with family and friends by her side. She was born December 1, 1949 to the late Louis and Frances Damron, and was preceded in death by a nephew, David Neil Grant. Dea retired after many years as the Procurement Mapping Division Chief from the Defense Supply Center Richmond. She had a love for knitting, camping, going on adventures and spending time with her family and friends. Dea is survived by two sisters, Linda Grant and husband, David, Lou Blackman and husband, Michael; a brother, Louis Damron; a niece, Amy Whittaker; nephews, John and Matthew Blackman; great nephews, Kerry Whittaker and Jacob Blackman; great niece, Haile Lowry Blackman, Aunt Martha, cousins, and a special friend, Andrew Woody. The family will like to thank the staff at Walnut Hill Pharmacy and Crater Community Hospice for the loving care of Dea. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia, with the Reverend Dr. Eric Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Virginia.
