Grace Everett Hackney, 92, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at John Randolph Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lydia Harrell Everett and the widow of William Henderson Hackney. Mrs. Hackney was preceded in death by eleven brothers and three sisters. She was a member of the Highland United Methodist Church where she was Treasurer for the United Methodist Women for over 26 years, and was a lifetime member and served as President for five terms for the Women's Auxiliary Unit at American Legion Post 284 in Colonial Heights. Mrs. Hackney is survived by two daughters, Gail H. Woodcock and husband, Lee of Hopewell; Grace Elaine Dale and husband, David of Florida; grandchildren, Amanda Tharp and husband, Glenn, and Vincent Rice; and a great grandson, Lee Tharp; with a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Highland United Methodist Church, 125 East Westover Ave. Colonial Heights VA. 23834 with the Reverend Dr. Dorothy O'Quinn officiating. Burial to follow in Southlawn Memorial Park Prince George. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highland United Methodist Church. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
