Harold Thomas Mapley, 84, of S Prince George, VA, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025. Born in Pontiac, Michigan on September 7, 1940, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Mapley and Lizzie Belle Beacom Mapley. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eunice Johnson Mapley.
After high school, Harold enlisted in the United States Army and served for over three years, and then went on to join the United States Army Reserves. He retired from General Motors after 30 years working in their auto assembly line. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 2 in Petersburg, VA.
He is survived by two sisters, Joyce Hovis of Sterling Heights, MI and Mary Katherine Sutton of Gaithersburg, MD; nieces, Katherine Dysland (Ronald), Alison Levy (Donnie), Carolyn Chase (Steve), Marion Riordan (John), and Sarah Hovis; nephews, Kevin, Damon (Debbie), and Brian; eight grandnieces and three grandnephews, Kristin, Jarod, Colin, Katie, Brianna, Gabriella, Christian, Peyton, Gwen, Annelise, and Marielle; great-grand nephews, Andrew, Aidin, and Austin; and great-grand niece, Olivia.
Harold also leaves behind his beloved adopted family; Laura Powell, LaToya and Lakesha Powell, Shawn Moore, and Effie Green.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Crater Road Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 3935 S Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow the funeral service in Southlawn Memorial Park’s Mausoleum, S Prince George, VA.
