Harry Charles "Chuck" Barnes, Jr. of Prince George, Virginia, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 4, 1945, He was preceded in death by his parents, H. C. Barnes, Sr. and Marie Sullivan Barnes. Chuck graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1963 and joined the United States Navy in 1967. He received his commission in December of 1972 and received his Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Oklahoma before retiring from the Navy in August of 1989. Mr. Barnes was currently employed at the Hopewell Cogeneration Facility since December 1989 and was an active member and current president of the National Association of Military Retirees and a proud member of Grace Lutheran Church in Chester, Virginia. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Paula Hayes Barnes; daughters, Diane and Rebecca Barnes; grandchildren, Cadell, Cassidy, and Courtney Barnes; and his sister, Jeanne Barnes of Little Rock, Arkansas. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday October 27, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church 13028 Harrowgate Road, Chester, Virginia, with the Reverend Richard Finck, officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia, Virginia, 23002. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Lutheran Indian Ministries, 15400 W. Capitol Drive, Suite 201, Brookfield, Wisconsin, 53005.
