Harry Lee "Red" Childers 85, of Colonial Heights, died Saturday May 9, 2009. He was the son of the late Lee Victor and Clelia Blankenship Childers, and was preceded in death by three brothers Leonard Childers, Stanley Childers, Howard Childers and one sister Ethel Taylor. Harry was a WWII and Korean Conflict veteran serving in the United States Army. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Colonial Heights where he served as an usher for 33 years. Harry is survived by his wife of 53 years Patricia S. Childers, daughter Debbie Elwell and husband John of Dinwiddie, grandson J.P. Elwell of Dinwiddie, brother Hugh Childers and wife Joyce of Richmond, sister Garnet Shook and husband Roy of Keysville and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Calvary Baptist Church 1701 Jefferson Davis Hwy Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Dr. Ray Haskett officiating. Burial will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park Prince George. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30pm at the Church.
