The Reverend Dr. Harry E. Johns, Jr., 65, of Colonial Heights passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond. Born on January 12, 1951, he was the son of the late Harry Eugene Johns, Sr. and Jean Spencer Johns. A graduate of the University of Virginia and Union Theological Seminary, Harry served as Pastor of congregations in North Carolina, of Third Presbyterian Church in Petersburg, Virginia, Rosewood Presbyterian Church, and most recently as Interim Pastor of Amelia Presbyterian, and of the Olivet, Second, and Third Presbyterian Churches in Staunton, Virginia. He also taught Government and World History at L.C. Bird High School, and enjoyed coaching a variety of community youth sports teams. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Hutcheson Johns; son, Brian C. Johns and wife, Paige; daughter, Megan Johns O'Neill and husband, Ryan; grandchildren, Lea and Susanna Campbell Johns; sister, Vicki J. Morgan and husband, Rick; sister-in-law, Lynn Walls; brother-in-law, Fletcher Hutcheson; and beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service and reception will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 7500 Hull Street Road, Richmond, VA 23235, (804) 276-1749.
