Harry "Haywood" Vaughan Sr., 95, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born in Matoaca, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Martha Walthall Vaughan. He was the widower of Viola Vaughan, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Elva Clay Vaughan. Haywood was a member of Matoaca Baptist Church, a Retired Civil Service Electrician, and the oldest member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local Union Number 666. He is survived by a son, Harry H. "Spanky" Vaughan Jr. and friend, Tammy Wells of Chesterfield; a daughter, Mitzi Jean Vaughan and friend, Wayne Hope of Colonial Heights; many friends and relatives. The family would like to thank the staff of Southside Regional Medical Center, Hospice of Virginia, and the Colonial Heights Health Care & Rehabilitation Center for their care and compassion given to Mr. Vaughan. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Donald Joyner officiating. Interment will follow in East Matoaca Cemetery, Matoaca. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
