Hazel Belvin Butler, 83, current and long-time resident of Chesterfield passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022. Born and raised in Dinwiddie, Virginia on November 6, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Evelyn Hazel and John Glen Belvin, Sr., and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Curtis Conway Gentry, Jr.; second husband, William Perry Butler; and brother, James Baxter Belvin.
She was a member of the Washington Street United Methodist Church in Petersburg and was a former member of the Petersburg Chorale Society. Hazel worked as an administrative assistant for the Virginia Department of Health, retiring after 15 years of dedicated service.
She is survived by her children, Rhonda Gentry Harrell and husband, Tommie, Karen Gentry Temple; William Curtis Croft and wife, Pauline, Matthew Albert Harrell, Patrick Leland Harrell; two great-grandchildren, Gunner and Asher Croft; brother, John Glen Belvin, Jr. and wife, Margaret of Thomasville, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Ann Gentry Owens and Dorothy Butler; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in East Matoaca Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday night, May 3, 2022 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Alzheimer’s Association, 355 Rio Road West, Suite 102, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
