Hazel Lee Henshaw, 95, of Chester, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 3, 2018. Born October 30, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Emmett M. and Hazel Dozier Andrews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Lee Henshaw Sr; a son, Calvin Lee Henshaw Jr., and a grandson, John Benjamin Henshaw. Mrs. Henshaw was a seamstress, who shared her gift of handmaking dolls with many people, she was a church nursery attendant at West End Baptist Church, she enjoyed volunteering for the National Railway Historical Society on train excursions, and by working with Petersburg Social Services, she opened her heart and home to foster children. She is survived by her three children, Rose Bradley (Ed), John Henshaw, and Mary Riley (Lyle); five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Rita T. Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home. A special "thank you" to Crater Community Hospice, and her caretaker, Nancy Lewis for the care and compassion provided to Mrs. Henshaw.
