Helen Mathews

Helen J. Mathews, 83, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Thursday, September 23, 2021. Born on March 9, 1938, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Jones Sr. and Ellen Virginia Wells Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Clifton Mathews Jr.

Helen enjoyed spending time together with her loving family, especially playing Yahtzee and Rummy. She was also an avid baker, known most for her fruit cakes.

She is survived by one daughter, Debra M. Russell and husband, William, of Chesterfield, Virginia; five grandchildren, Jeremy D. Moore and wife, Lindi, of Dinwiddie, Virginia, Ryan Z. Moore and wife, Kristen, of Dinwiddie, Virginia, William J. Mathews and wife, Elyse, of Richmond, Virginia, Sean T. Bryant, and Kyle P. Bryant; extended family friends, Karen and Bobby Bryant of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; one sister; one brother; and numerous nieces, nephews, and additional family.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, South Prince George, Virginia 23805.
