Helen Michalek

Helen V. Michalek, 84, of Chesterfield, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015 at MCV Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Annie Kurtinecz Gorecki, and was preceded in death by her husband of 62 ½ years, Frank Irvin Michalek Sr. and a sister, Rose M. Michalek. Mrs. Michalek was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and on the Bereavement Committee. She was affectionately known by many people in the area as the "egg lady" or the "sausage lady." She loved to cook for family and friends over the years, and was fond of canning and freezing the vegetables from her garden. She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Reiter and husband, Jimmy of N. Dinwiddie; sons, Frank I. Michalek Jr. and wife, Linda, Stephen Michalek and girlfriend, Debbie Sessums all of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Kristle Sloan, Scott Reiter and wife, Naomi, Michael Reiter and wife, Christie, Mark Reiter and wife, Sara, Frank I. Michalek III and wife, Amy, Rebecca Bleigh and husband, Barry, Brian Reiter and wife, Jennifer, and Ada Webb; and 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sophie M. Fischer of Palm Bay, Florida, Ann M. Clark and husband, Jim of Cumming, Georgia, Johanna J. Leuber and husband, Les of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Margaret M. Logan and husband, Bill of Harrisburg, and Alice Parker and husband, Murl of Viola, Wisconsin; brothers, John Gorecki and wife, Valerie of Bressler, Pennsylvania, Mike Gorecki and wife, Jean of Oberlin, Pennsylvania, and Roy Gorecki and wife, Ruth Ann of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with Father Lou Ruoff, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The Rosary will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015 followed by a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church. Arrangements are being handled by E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
