Helen E. Goodwyn Parrish, 92, of Colonial Heights, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2013. Born in Chesterfield, she was the daughter of the late Cary W. Sr. and Nellie Essig Eanes, and the widow of Abe Parrish. She enjoyed people and worked at Howard Johnson's Restaurant in Colonial Heights from the opening day until it closed. Helen had a special love for children, having provided day care in her home for many years. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy G. Hall of N. Dinwiddie; JoNell G. McKee and husband, Jon of Chesterfield, and Judy G. Cates of Petersburg; a son, Alex A. Parrish and wife, Amy of Colonial Heights; grandchildren, Chip Hall, Kenny Hall, Cathy McKee DiMento, Christopher McKee, Cherie Cates Johnson, and Adam Baskin; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 in Blandford Cemetery, 319 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803, with the Reverend Michelle Lindsey officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
