Helen T. Seymour, 85, of Colonial Heights, Va. went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Thomas Townsend and Gertie Slaughter Townsend, of Greenbay, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Donald Seymour; three brothers, Jesse Townsend of Greenbay, Va, Eugene Townsend of Blackstone, Va, and Harvey Townsend of Powhatan, Va; two sisters, Mabel Murray of Moyock, N.C., and Elizabeth Townsend of Greenbay, Va. She was born in Lunenburg County and attended Victoria High School and Ledbetter Church. She later moved to Petersburg, Va. where she attended Petersburg High night school. Helen was an active member of the American Legion Post 284 Auxiliary, 50 and Better Club, Senior Center and Senior Center Singers all of Colonial Heights. She enjoyed recruiting entertainment for programs at some of these clubs, as well as singing, dancing, and traveling, especially to New York, Tennessee, and Georgia. She worked for C&P Telephone Company, several stores and retired from Seward Luggage of Petersburg after 30 years service. She leaves to cherish her legacy of memories, five children, Jeanne S. Rainey of Colonial Heights, Judy S. Davis and husband, Robert of Dinwiddie, Jana S. Bryant and husband, Robert of Carrollton, Ga., Jeffery C. Seymour and wife, Julie of Colonial Heights, and Johnny C. Seymour of Colonial Heights; 11 grandchildren, Pamela Wade and Keith of Chesterfield, Jennifer Walters and Tim of Colonial Heights, Kelly Kilbourne and Matt of Colonial Heights, Dennis S. Rainey of Henrico, David Rainey and Jackie of Colonial Heights, Linda Cedillo and Roberto of Colonial Heights, Tammy Holzbach and Paul of Chesterfield, Lisa Akers of Ga., Tina Bryant of Ga., Scott Bryant and CaSandra of Ga., and Mindy Seymour of Colonial Heights; and a very special friend James (Buster) Sirles of Richmond. She has one surviving brother, Elbert R. Townsend of Dinwiddie, Va. She also has 12 nieces and nephews, 18 great-grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren and 3 step great-great-grandchildren. She leaves numerous friends that she dearly loved and cared for. Helen was a very spiritual and loving person who always put her family first. She enjoyed being with her family and friends and was always there to help them in any way she could. Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 pm, Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the funeral home with interment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George.
