Helen Jones Sprouse, 82, of Church Road, Virginia died on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Southside Regional Medical Center. A native of Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Jones Sr. and Helen Ashby Jones. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John Wesley Jones Jr. and Preston Hoy Jones. Helen was a lifelong member of West End Baptist Church, where she served as a Deacon, sang in choir, helped prepare Wednesday night dinners, and offered comfort and support to others through her work with the Benevolence Committee. Helen was a nurse by profession and a caregiver by nature. She began her career at Petersburg General Hospital, but for most of her professional life she practiced nursing at Petersburg Obstetrics and Gynecology. After a brief retirement, she returned to nursing at the Colonial Heights Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She also cared for her two brothers and her parents in their final years. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Charles Sprouse; her brother and sister - in-law, Gilbert and Eleanor Jones of Petersburg; her sister and brother-in-law Muriel Jones Ridout and Edward Ridout of Roanoke, VA; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers from Amedisys Home Health, Crater Community Hospice, Southside Regional Medical Center, and Hospice of Virginia for their Compassionate and loving care during Helen's extended illness. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg.
