Hilda (Polly) H. Carpenter, 94, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Born in Petersburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Harry Frederick Jr. and Lillian Madeline Moore. Polly was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, James M. Carpenter, as well as two brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Brenda, and her husband, Kenny Spain; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Jean and Rick; and caregivers, Wanda, Melissa (fur-baby-friend, Chloe), Elizabeth, Mathilde, and Phifi.
Polly graduated from Petersburg High School in 1947. She worked as a secretary for many years before retiring from the Colonial Heights School Board Office.
Throughout her life, Polly enjoyed a variety of activities. She loved attending Petersburg Generals baseball games with her husband, Crip, spending Thursday nights at Hardee’s listening to country music, and going to antique car shows. Polly also had a passion for thrifting and collecting antiques. In her later years, she found joy in working on word search puzzles.
Polly’s life was full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Colonial Heights Fire and EMS Station, 100 Highland Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia, 23834.
