Hoyt Whitmore Jr.

Hoyt Archer Whitmore, Jr., 81, of Dinwiddie, Virginia, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, at his home. Born to the late Hoyt Archer Whitmore, Sr., and Alma Wheelhouse Whitmore, Hoyt was also preceded in death by his son, Jerry G. Whitmore; two brothers, Ronald P. and Claude W. Whitmore; and one sister, Carol Faye Whitmore Weis. Mr. Whitmore was a United States Navy Veteran and the former part owner of E.J. Williams & Sons Sawmill. He retired after 30 years as the owner and operator of his own truck driving company. Hoyt was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church and the Petersburg Eagles Club # 882. He had a love for hunting, fishing, and family cook outs. Mr. Whitmore is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Myrtle M. Whitmore; his children, Hoyt Whitmore, III., Vicki W. Jones and husband, C.J., and Wendy W. Seaman and husband, Keith; a daughter-in-law, Gail V. Whitmore; his brother, Phillip Whitmore and wife, Sandy; his grandchildren, Myndi Eilert and husband, Chad, Christopher R. Jones, Stephanie J. Varga and husband, Kevin, Courtney M. Jones, Jessica M. Seaman, Samantha N. Seaman, Lisa G. Whitmore, and William "Billy" Whitmore and fiancé, Kendall Potter; his great-grandchildren, Emily-Anne Eilert, Alexandria Varga, Brooklynn Varga, Daniel Varga, and Kasey Harney; his lifelong friends, Linwood and Rachel Hayes, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Dr. Robert Rowland officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Virginia 23834. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 2, 2017, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Pl.
