Hubert Lee Adkins, 76, of Colonial Heights, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at St. Francis Medical Center. He was the son of the late Richard Elmore and Elsie Bradley Adkins, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Christie Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a 10-year veteran with the U.S. Army National Guard, a lay preacher who worked with many ministries in the tri-cities area, and a long time co-owner of S&A Painting. He is survived by his sons, Brian Adkins and wife Sheila of Midlothian, and Michael Adkins of Richmond; grandchildren, Jenell, Joshua, Nicholas, and Alexandra; foster daughter, Rose Jones; brothers, James Adkins and wife Edna of Prince George, and Curtis Adkins and wife Ann of Dinwiddie; sisters, Dot Grigg of Hopewell and Ruth Aldridge of Chesapeake ; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 620 Lafayette Ave, Colonial Heights, with the Rev. David Prather officiating. Interment Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
