Hugh Luebehusen

Hugh Bernard Luebehusen, age 82, of Colonial Heights, VA was received into glory on Saturday, October 8, 2016, surrounded by his family. Hugh was born in Winchester, VA on November 24, 1933, son of the late Leroy J. and Mary V. Luebehusen. Hugh's life story was one of service especially to his loving God, starting as altar boy at his family church in Winchester, VA, the Boy Scouts, Wesley United Methodist Men, and as self-appointed maintenance man at the church where he was a member. Hugh served for two years in the U.S. Navy, followed by two years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a hospital medic. He was awarded the American Spirit Honor Medal and lived as an exemplary patriot. He also served his community as a Physical Therapist, helping many patients in his private practice in Petersburg, VA, as well as working at Petersburg General Hospital. Hugh was a lifetime member of the Antique Auto Club of America, and the local chapter, Crater Antique Car Club. Hugh was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan, his daughters, Dania Luby and Michelle Luby Mehfoud (George), his three grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, and William Mehfoud, and by his sister, Christine Jade. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Luby Luebehusen and his brother Edward Michael Luebehusen (Helen). A memorial service celebrating Hugh's life will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 13th at Wesley United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights, VA. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at Wesley, 5 to 7pm. A graveside service will be held at Ebenezer Christian Church in Gore, VA at 2:30pm the following day, Friday, October 14th.
