Ida Vivian Dyson Dewell Best, of The Crossings at Ironbridge, died on October 25, 2011. She was born July 24, 1915, a native and life-time resident of Chesterfield County, the widow of William Lawrence "Doody" Dewell, the daughter of the late James Early and Grace Perkinson Dyson. She was a life-time member of Wesley Chapel and Wood's United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, served in the choir and on various church committees. She retired from the Engineering and Utilities Department of Chesterfield County in 1980 as an administrative assistant to the Director. She was a charter member of the Matoaca Woman's Club and the Chesterfield Historical Society, a member of AARP Chapter 1399, a member of the Colonel John Banister Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Chesterfield # 851 Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was the family historian for the descendants of William Baxter Perkinson. She is survived by a son, David and wife, Laura Dewell; a daughter, Anita and husband, Lambros Deligan, three grandchildren, Bryan Dewell, Lee Ann Dewell and husband, Graham Lang, and George Deligan; three great-grandchildren, Mason Alexander, Courtney Renee and Parker Jackson Dewell; sisters-in-law, Clara Dyson and Jeanne Dyson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Catherine O'Kennon, Lillian Collier and her brothers, James and John Dyson. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, October 28 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Services will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 2:00 pm at Wood's United Methodist Church, 7200 Hickory Road, S. Chesterfield with interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wood's Church.
