Ila W. Carter, 77, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday April 4, 2016. The youngest of nine children, she was preceded in death by her parents, Archie H. and Susie F. Woodlief of Granville Co. NC; brothers, Raymond, Burley, Roy, Nelson and Dorsey Woodlief; sisters, Ruth w. Cabaniss and Mary Elizabeth Oakley. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, James H. Carter; daughter, Janet D. Carter; one sister, Josephine Ellington; a sister-in-law, Lucille Woodlief; one brother-in-law, Robert Carter; along with numerous nieces and nephews and cherished friends. Mrs. Carter was a longtime member of Craterview Baptist Church in Petersburg. She loved to sing and praise her Lord and enjoyed spending time and working in her vegetable and flower garden. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Dinwiddie Health and Rehab Center for their care shown towards Mrs. Carter after a long illness, and also to her church family at Craterview for their love and devotion. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834, with the Rev. Raz Stephens and the Rev. James Thompson, officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the funeral home.
