Adkins, Isabel Robertson, 82, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 20, 2009. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 62 years, William Collins Adkins; her daughters, Wanda Adkins Crockett and Carla Adkins Park; her two granddaughters, Mary Katherine Crockett and Rebecca Barker Crockett; a large extended family, and many family friends. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, John Royall Robertson Jr., James Marion Robertson, and Robert Edward Robertson. Isabel graduated from Petersburg High School in 1944 and the Petersburg Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. Serving as a U.S. Public Health cadet nurse in 1947, she nursed returning service veterans in Philadelphia. Isabel was a dedicated nurse who retired from Southside Regional Medical Center after 40 years of service. Her role as a constant caregiver was also evident in her lovely garden and the many birds that she watched from the windows of the longtime home she shared with William. Isabel will be remembered always as a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her marriage to William was an inspiration to all who witnessed their never-ending love and devotion. As a mother and grandmother, she will be forever loved and missed, but will live on in our hearts and memory. William and his daughters would like to express appreciation to Dr. Jay Goldberg for his vigilant care and compassion he has given for so many years. Isabel was a lifelong member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Monday March 23, 2009 at the Colonial Heights chapel of the E, Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Tom Brown officiating. Burial to follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2-3:30 at the funeral home.
