Jack Arthur Barnes, 86, a former resident of Colonial Heights, died Thursday, April 14, 2010 in The Windsor Assisted Living Center. He was born in Evanston, Wyoming, the son of the late Richard and Nancy Bettison Barnes, and the widower of Jeanette J. Barnes. The Barnes' resided in Colonial Heights until 1981 when they moved to Mesa, Arizona where they spent their retirement years until recently moving back to Virginia. Mr. Barnes was a United States Navy Veteran, a graduate of the University of Idaho, and retired from Civil Service at Fort Lee. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine B. Sterling and husband, Stan of Illinois, and Gail B. Tanner and husband, Charles of Massachusetts; two sons and daughters-in-law, Erik R. Barnes and wife, Melanie of Richmond, and Kris H. Barnes and wife, Nancy of Colonial Heights; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be private.
