Jack Keith Cox, 81, of Disputanta, passed away on December 4, 2022 at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Jack was born on December 2, 1941 to Minnie Watson Cox and Aubrey R. Cox in Waverly, Va. After Jack graduated from Waverly High School in 1960, he went on to Ferrum Junior college and then on to study biology and chemistry at Lynchburg College. Jack was an accomplished collegiate baseball player.
After graduating with a degree in Biology, Jack started his first job at Stoney Creek High. He went on to become Principal at Waverly High School, Principal at Jarrett Elementary, a teacher and coach at Hopewell High School, and finally a teacher and coach at Prince George High school where he taught chemistry and coached softball.
In 1958, Jack met Emily Kegley and they married in May 1965. Jack and Emily went on to have two children, Keith and Laura.
In 1997, Jack retired and spent his time hunting, golfing, and watching the stock market.
Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Cox Davis (Chris), his brother Aubrey Cox Jr, and sister Margaret Cox Lewis. He is survived by his wife, Emily, son, Keith (Amy), grandchildren Blake (Samantha), Emma, Anna, Ashley (Jason), Steven, and five great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Rd, Petersburg, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
