James Barksdale

July 8, 1952 — March 21, 2012

James Allen Barksdale, 59, was received into the loving arms of the heavenly Father, and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 21, 2012 after a long and hard-fought battle with kidney cancer. It was a peaceful passing for this soft-spoken, gentle, giant of a man and he was surrounded in love by many who admired him. He was predeceased by his father, Overton Barksdale, and brother, Clarence Barksdale. James was a devoted and long standing member of St. Ann Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 6372. He was employed by Dominion Resources, 28 years at the Chesterfield Power Station as Supervisor, and 9 years at the Technical Training Center as Senior Electrical Instructor. James was a man of few words but when he spoke, everyone listened and understood he was a special, humble and honorable man. He will be missed immensely and we are grateful to God for His amazing gift that we were honored to know and love. James is survived by his wife of 35 years, Christina; sons, Brian and David; daughter, April; daughter-in-law, Makala; and granddaughter, Kadence; his sweet mother, Louise Barksdale of Keysville; brother, Walker (Buck) Barksdale; mother-in-law, Betty Queensberry; Queensberry brothers-in-law, Dennis and wife, Judy, Winning, Mark, Wade and wife, Terri, Scottie and wife, Connie; sister-in-law, Brenda Hammock and husband, Ralph; 15 nephews and 20 nieces. A Funeral Mass will take place Monday, March 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights with Father Lou Ruoff as Celebrant. Interment immediately following at St. Ann Catholic Church Cemetery. A reception in the church hall follows the burial. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. A love offering in James' name to the American Cancer Society/Institute or Hospice of Virginia is appreciated.
