James Bender

James D. "Bud" Bender, 78, of Prince George, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at his residence. "Bud" was retired from Continental Can Company and Smurfit/ Stone Paper Company as a Truck Shop foreman in Hopewell after 32 years of dedicate service He was one of the first men to help organize the Prince George Emergency Crew in July 1970. "Bud" was born February 28, 1937 in Huttonsville, West Virginia, to the late Ellis and Tippy Louk Bender. "Bud" is survived by his beloved and devoted caretaker wife, Thelma Wegman Bender. They have been married 57 years. Bud was a perfect husband, and the greatest Daddy of two beautiful and caring daughters, Sandy Bender Harville and husband, Mark of Dinwiddie, Virginia, Cindy Bender Kirk, who passed on June 5th, 2011 from Ovarian Cancer, that is when "Bud" also died from a broken heart when his precious daughter left this earth and entered the promise land. "Bud" is survived by Cindy's husband, Conrad Kirk and grandson Conrad Bradley Kirk of Colonial Heights,Virginia. Two granddaughters, Jessica Whitmore Hunt, of Prince George,Virginia and Anna Elizabeth Harville of Dinwiddie, Virginia. Two great grandsons, Braden Sumblin of Prince George, Virginia and Aric James Hunt of Hopewell, Virginia. Bud is also survived by his sisters Evelyn Weese and husband Charles of Queenstown, Maryland, Janet Norberg of Chesterfield,Virginia, Juanita Sprout and husband, Kenneth of Eldersburg, Maryland, Norma Wegman of Hendersonville, North Carolina, JoEllen Seburn and husband, John of Newport News, Virginia. "Bud" was preceded in death by his step mom, Arlene Bender; sisters, Estel Carr and Eunice B. Wegman; brothers, Irving Ray Bender, Bob Bender, Woodrow Bender and Larry White. "Bud" is also survived by his brother-in-laws, Richard Wegman of Adolph, West Virginia, Firl and Bonnie of Beverly West Virginia, Randal and Evelyn Wegman of Gladys, Virginia; David and Delora Wegman of Chesterfield, Virginia; a sister in-law, Judy Bender of Gloucester, Virginia. Bud is also survived by many nieces and nephew, lots of friends and neighbors. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 in Southlawn Memorial Park Prince George, with the Reverend Joyce Harville officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, April 17, 2015 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 3935 S. Crater Road.
