James Bennett Jr.

James Allen Bennett Jr., 92, of Colonial Heights, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012 after a period of declining health. Mr. Bennett was born June 7, 1920 in Petersburg, Virginia to the late James Allen Bennett Sr. and Florence Payne Bennett and resided in the vicinity all of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth S. Bennett; a sister, Mary B. Hazlett, and a brother, Thomas I. Bennett. Mr. Bennett was a WWII, United States Army Veteran, and retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Dr. Andrew Brockelman officiating. Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Park Chester, Virginia. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour before the service from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
