James Paul Culbertson, 81, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2011. He was born on March 8, 1930 in Norton, Virginia and was part of a large, close-knit family. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rosa Culbertson, a grandson, Daniel James Rudy, and a sister, Nellie Wyatt. He worked for many years in the coal mines of Southwest, Virginia, was a proud veteran of the Korean War, and worked at Allied Signal until his retirement. He was a devoted family man and is survived by his wife of 59 years, Reatha H. Culbertson; three daughters, Linda Whichard (Butch) of Colonial Heights, Vickie Greeno (Ronny) of Swanton, Vermont, and Angela Rudy (Jon) of Chesterfield; one son, Ronald Culbertson of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Amy Gabbert (Jamie), Travis Greeno (Jaime), Trevor Greeno, Casey Scofield (Dana), Carly Greeno, and Nicole Rudy; great-grandchildren, Alex and Emily Gabbert, Madison Hughes, Alexis Greeno and Sierra Scofield; three sisters, Ruth Sturgill, Della Harrison (Atwell), and Lena Huff (Glen); brothers, Coy Culbertson (Blanche), Ray Culbertson (Ann), Gerald Culbertson (Virginia), Don Culbertson, Glen Culbertson (Margaret), Ernest Culbertson (Shirley), and Johnny Culbertson; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Allen Culbertson officiating. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
