James Robert Goodwin Sr., 90, of Colonial Heights, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011. He was the son of the late Robert William Goodwin and Bertha Bossinger Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Mary R. Goodwin. He was a member of the Cameron Avenue Church of Christ and retired from Goodwin Lawn and Garden Service. Prior to moving to Virginia, Mr. Goodwin was a manager with Farm Bureau and Agway for many years. A native of Lewistown, Pennsylvania, Mr. Goodwin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1943 and fought during the battle of Iwo Jima. Mr. Goodwin is survived by his children, James R. Goodwin Jr. and wife, Connie of Lewistown, Pennsylvania and Vicki G. Ingram of Colonial Heights; grandchildren, Tim Finkler and wife, Kim, Scott Finkler and wife, Sherry, Todd Finkler and wife, Judy, Jennifer Dotson, Beth Heavrin and husband, Christopher, and James R. Goodwin III and wife, Brittany; great-grandchildren, Chelsee, Joey, Jason, Emily Kate, Aidan, Sidney, Adison, Julia, Mary Katherine, Abby, Bailey, Emily, Christopher and Brody; great-great-granddaughter, Aubrey; and a brother, John Goodwin of Wellsville, Pennsylvania. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care, comfort and consideration that was shown to their father by the staff of Dunlop Assisted Living Center for the past two years, Crater Community Hospice during the last few months of his life, and the Lewistown Center for seniors. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with Mr. Mark Dailey officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
