James Hayes Sr.

James "Tommy" Hayes Sr., 62, of Chester, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2011. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Van Wyck, and two brothers, Richard E. and Gary W. Van Wyck. Mr. Hayes was a United States Air Force veteran, having served during the Vietnam War, and was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He is survived by his wife, Brenda P. Hayes; a son, James T. Hayes Jr. and fiancée, Theresa Smith of Newport News; a daughter, Sheila K. Hayes and friend, Patrick Ondra of Chester; a grandson, Joshua T. McCloud; a brother, Steve M. Hayes and wife, Sandra of Chester; an uncle, Matthew Jones of Alberta; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. The family will receive friends following the service.
