James S. Hepler, US Army (Ret), 85, of Colonial Heights, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 4, 2021. Born on September 2, 1936, he was the son of the late Horace G. Hepler and Charlotte R. Hepler and was preceded in death by a brother, Sonny and a sister, Ruth. James served 20 years in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. James met his wife Kim while working in Korea. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, serving in many positions but most notably as the church’s treasurer. James also loved the NFL and would watch any game that was on. James is survived by his devoted wife, Kim Hepler; sons, Chuck Hepler (Daryl), David Hepler, Ken Hepler, and Tony Hepler (Carmen); grandchildren, Lauren, James Dalton, Hannah, Kathryn, Larissa, Elisa, and Anthony Jr; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2021 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Dr. Ray Haskett officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors in Sunset Memorial Park Chester, Virginia. The family will receive friends Monday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 17001 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights Virginia, 23834, Online condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
