James Whitney Hodges, 89, of Matoaca, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014 at McGuire VA Medical Center. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Lloyd W. and Gertrude Marks Hodges, but was raised by Olive and James Sandford. Mr. Hodges was a United States Army veteran, a member of Matoaca Baptist Church, the Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284, and the Petersburg Elks Lodge BPO #237. He is survived by his wife, Margaret W. Hodges; two daughters, Carolyn Hodges of Colonial Heights and Judy H. Daniels and husband, Keith of Chesterfield; two grandchildren, Jeffery and Brittany; two great-grandchildren, Shane and Jordan; two brothers, Lloyd Hodges of North Carolina and Taylor Hodges of West Point; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2014 at East Matoaca Cemetery, Matoaca, Virginia 23803 with Mr. Gene Mims officiating.
