James (Jim) Damron of Colonial Heights passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. Mr. Damron has lived in Colonial Heights since 1995. Born in Shelbyville, Tennessee, he spent his entire youth in Pasco, Washington. After graduating from Pasco High School in 1958, he enlisted in the United States Army, and remained there for 38 years of continuous active duty. He retired from the Army in 1996 as a Chief Warrant Officer-Five. Among his military awards are the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, five awards of the Bronze Star, and many others. He was a Distinguished Member of the Order of St. Martin. Mr. Damron was a graduate of Troy State University, Troy, Alabama. After his military retirement he worked for several years as a Program Manager for Computer Sciences Corporation, with offices in Petersburg and Chester. A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Chun Cha Damron who passed in March of 2022. His surviving family includes a son, Jimmy Damron and daughter, Sandy Kibler; and two beloved grandchildren, Taylor and Riley Dugan. The family will receive friends Monday, May 15, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
