James Kirkland Jr.

James L. Kirkland Jr., 87, of Disputanta, passed on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Born July 1, 1930, he was the son of the late James L. Kirkland Sr. and Naomi Traylor Kirkland and was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Thomas Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland was a US Army veteran and a retired civil service employee at the time of his retirement. He was the Director of the Defense Logistics Studies Information Management College at Fort Lee. Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by his loving family. He is survived by three daughters, Melinda Kirkland Nicholas (Cecil), Susan Kirkland Soloe (Karl) and Valerie Kirkland Kipper (Mac); seven grandchildren, William M. Berk, Erin Pomplun Woolley (Brad), James M. Nicholas (Tammie), Jennifer N. Myers (Tripp), Lydia Leigh Pomplun (Megan), Karl Lee Soloe Jr. and Kelly Anne Soloe; nine great-grandchildren and son-in-law, Richard James Pomplun (Cathy). An inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805. Arrangements by the Crater Road Chapel of the E.
